Medieval Weaponry Facts
Date Added: August 31, 2010 07:39:15 PM
Many people have taken to collecting various types of medieval weaponry. Medieval weapons come in many forms and there are many types of medieval weapons to choose from, so how do you know which one to get for yourself? I wrote this article to tell you about the more commonly seen types of medieval weapons you may find. I'll explain fierce weapons like: maces, axes, flails, swords, and even pole weaponry. The medieval axe has a large viscous looking head affixed onto a short wooden handle. This weapon was functional for chopping wood and enemies alike. Lance like tips were added to some of these axes so that fighters could stab people with the end as well as chop them. Maces are rounded weapons that are meant for crushing rather than cutting. These weapons are longer than medieval axes and have big balls of metal at the top. The end has spikes coming out of it to cut into enemies upon impact. Long range mellee combat was fought using pole weapons. Javelins, halbers, lances, and tridents are all good examples of medieval pole weapons. They are the hardest medieval weapons to display as they take up the largest amount of space in a room. However, you will find that displaying this type of medieval weapon is much more unique and satisfying. Medieval daggers are small weapons used for extreme close combat situations. Soldiers carried these weapons to use in their free hand or when their main weapons failed them for one reason or another. These weapons can also be used like the modern day swiss army knife is used, for cutting food and repairing gear. You'll find that these daggers are very easy to display because of their small space requirements. The most popular medieval weaponsis most likely the medieval fighting sword. This weapon was a great mid range weapon to fight with and was used by some of the most powerful armies of the middle ages. Many people have chosen to display this type of weapon. You can not go wrong buying a medieval sword to display. The medieval flail is a weapon made up of a piece of wood and a long chain. The chain ends with a large spiked ball for smashing and cutting purposes. Wielders of flails would swing the chain and smash their opponents while staying out of range of daggers, axes, and swords.
